Hospitals
Hospitals have been identified as a high risk setting for the cultural safety of TGD people. Many hospitals may not have the systems in place to provide respectful and inclusive care for TGD clients. The ZBGC have worked with many hospitals in developing their inclusive practices, policies, staff training and broad cultural competency in working with TGD people.
Topics Include:
- Respecting TGD identities, language, terms and pronouns
- Experiences and impacts of discrimination within healthcare
- Specific health risks for TGD people
- Anti-discrimination law and sexual harassment
- Interacting with TGD bodies respectfully
- Body dysphoria and care
- Navigating confidentiality, disclosure and safety
- Support gender affirmation (transitioning) in a hospital setting
- Inclusive practice in hospital settings and ward-based care
